Penang Food List

I'm doing a compilation of the street foods(& others) that I've eaten during the three months of my internship (in year 2014). I usually do reviews individually for each cafes but as for street foods, I decided to compile it all in one post so that it's easier to refer to! Also, as a reference, I'll put those that I personally like at the top of the list with *thumbs up* next to the name of the place and also, those that I don't really like at the bottom with *thumbs down*, just for the heck of it. I'll also put a list of links to the cafes reviews that I have done at the most bottom part of this post, also in the same format, from the best to the not-so-good ones.

I didn't include the price because the price goes up and down with time and also, the biggest factor is because I didn't note down the price.

I've linked the places name with their foursquare location so you can easily search for the location and also comments. ALSO! I've made a compilation with google map (can find it at the bottom-est part of this post). Oh my, aren't I the best? Now, your food search will become so much easier.

Awesome places to nom nom

6/6/14 Rekindle, SS2 & horrid World Ventures

Went to SS2 one fine day for a small discussion with some dodgy "company" and had free time to wander around the area. Then stumbled across Rekindle on Foursquare which has very high rating.
I know the blog post title is a little funny and I even intertwined a food review with my rant. But since this is my blog, I can write whatever I want. And maybe this is serve as a bonus read for people who didn't know about either one of these things.
image
If you're interested in my rant, it's after the food review. Thank you.

The view inside the cafe. There's also seatings outside for smokers.

The menu behind the counter.

Just a random picture because of the bicycle.

As you can see there's plenty of choices, they even have assorted macarons(not macaroon, bless you)!

There are also some comfy floor seats and cushions if you are looking for a place to just chill. As for the cushion, I rather not hug a pillow that was touched by many. But that's just me with my hygienic issues.

Butterscotch, RM12
Feeling a little adventurous, I ordered butterscotch as I've never drank any before. Normally, chocolate or tea would be the one for me but I think I made a wise choice that day. I simply loved it, the taste is unforgettable. Just sweet and tasty butterscotch.

Chocolate Baileys with Hazelnut, RM16
I went a bit cuckoo when I saw the word "Baileys". Can't really resist ordering it after knowing the ingredients inside the cake. Topped with crunchy caramelized hazelnut, the cake was superb. Even though it's a bit tad pricey but I think it was worth the taste.

Love the drink and cake. Will come again if I am around the area!

I don't think many know about World Ventures but it is slowly making it's name out there in Asian countries nowadays. You'll easily find people who are associated with them through their facebook photos, they will be holding a blue banner with "Wish you were here!" or "You should be here!" text on them. Well, I didn't know about them until I came across an ad shared by someone when I was finding part-time jobs on a facebook group. The one who post it wrote something very attractive to people who loves to travel, like me. He promises that you can travel for FREE if you just ask him how. Stupid me, I thought it was something like a sponsored trip in exchange for review or something (my blogger mind working it's stupidity in my brain) but sadly, it was not. Well, of course I PM-ed him, and he said he couldn't explain it over the internet and ask me to find him if I wanted more details.

This is where I fell for it. I was so eager to travel for free, I actually fell for his trap. Not only that, that arsehole even came an hour late to meet me in his own pro-claimed "office". World Ventures office is situated in SS2, and when I first went in there... I just saw many China men and weird, nobody seemed to care about me being there. Didn't even asked me why I was there. It didn't feel like a "company" at all. When he finally made it, he showed me videos of their ads and started blabbering about making fortunes in a short amount of time.
Weird, wasn't it about travelling for free? How come tell me I can make money?
Registration fee was 200$ only, he says. RM1000 ONLY. What the f?
And then, it hits me... Pyramid scam.

Lemme tell you this, yes World Ventures does give you packages to travel around the world that they claimed is CHEAP but really it really isn't if you research hard enough. Plus there is no flexibility in travelling anymore if you take their packages. The itinerary is all planned out and you have to follow a huge tour group because they will only make the trip work when they have the right amount of people going else they wouldn't get a cheaper price from the hotels. I honestly don't like being in a tour group, because I followed it once before when I went to China with my mum and it was horrible. No flexibility and it was all rushed out, I didn't liked it at all. Not to mention, we spent most of our time being locked in a room while someone is trying to sell us something. Dreadful, I tell ya. What I originally thought about travelling for free, went down the drain. They claim it was FREE because you have to scam the money out of other people so that you can get THEIR REGISTRATION FEES to pay for your trips. That isn't very nice is it?

Frankly I did thought about it for a moment and thought it was a really good deal, but realized it was not a smart choice. After a few days, I realize I was stupid to even considered the job. So, if you want to avoid wasting your time, realize you're being pressured into it and run far away from these people, please read on.

Signs that tells you to IGNORE THIS ASSHEADS:

1. Requires you to meet up in person
It seems like an e-mail or two is not enough to reel you in because you can easily ignore it if you don't like it. Being in front of these people, you can't run anywhere, you're in their trap. So the FIRST thing to do in order to avoid them is NOT to meet up if they sends you messages that says "it's too difficult to tell you here". There is always a choice of making a phone call, which he can talk and explain it. If he insist that he wants to MEET you IN PERSON, well.. Reeks of rotten fish, don't you think?

2. Tells you, you can make a huge fortune in a short amount of time easily
It is sad, we all wish this is true but unfortunately it is not. We all know that if we want to earn a lot of money in a short amount of time, we would have to give something with the same price in return. IT IS ALWAYS NOT EASY to earn money. If indeed what he says is true, then why is that person approaching you? Isn't he making a lot of money already? Shouldn't he be swimming in a pool full of cash or throwing money in the air to make it rain money like how Uncle Scrooge would?

3. Reels you in with lies
You will not know every single thing that he says is the truth or lie of course. But I think you'll know it is too good to be true when you hear them talking about how successful their boss is, making RM1 million a year and is so busy travelling around the world and even claims that they have too much money for their own good. Then why is the boss there, in the office, strutting around with his polo t-shirt and jeans? Isn't she TOO BUSY with all those travelling? This actually happened to me. True story bro. If I was making RM1 million a year, I think I would be chilling in Paris instead of that nasty place.

4. Rushing you into things
After all those attractive things he promised you, he now exclaim that if you do not do this now, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. He'll maybe tell you a story or two about the "others like you" and what trials they have to went through to literally beg them to get get into the club. Why rush if he tells you everyone wants to do it? Shouldn't people be searching for them instead of them searching for people? Giant tanker lah..

5. Oh, you need to pay for registration before you make any money
The biggest hint that screams out to tell you that it is a SCAM. Doesn't matter if it's RM50 or RM5000, it is still a scam. Is there a work that ask you for your money instead of giving them to you in exchange for your hard and real work? A work is one that will provide you money not suck them out from you. If they insist on lending you money first for the registration, then what for? You still need to pay for the scam sooner or later. Not worth it. Find an honest job, it is better.

There's no such thing as "easy" in exchange for big rewards. Think about it. Either you'll be taking a big risk or you have to exchange it with something with the same "price". Do you a girl in a bar can make RM400 an hour simply by "pouring drinks"? You're dead wrong if you think it's true (in my opinion anyway, not that I know what they really do, but I can make a wild guess). That comment is a little sexist but well... yeah. Remember to not fall for scams like this. I think it is safe to assume that everyone will at least meet one of these pests in our lives at some point. We just have to know who are we dealing with and know how to ignore them before you really regret what you're doing.

Mugshot Cafe, Georgetown

My number 1 hang out spot in Penang! Because in a month's time, I was here for like 3-4 time.
image

They have expanded their shop in between my visits, and now they also sells pastries next door!

The reason for my frequent visits. I'm so so so into the yoghurts they have there.

My favourite of 'em all! Jackfruit & Gula Melaka, RM10
The combination is superb, paired with their homemade yoghurt! This is a must try, MUST TRY!!
They also have it with Kiwi & Honey (my second favorite), Mango & Walnut, Walnut & Raisins.

Hot Choc, RM10

Only tried these two on our first visit to "test water" plus we were to full to order the bagel anyway.

And of course you have to take your mugshots when you're in The Mugshots Cafe!

Cappuccino, RM10
On our second visit, Aleena actually requested for a monster drawing on her cup of morning coffee because we're getting quite friendly with the barista. Without fail, he did it but said he's bad at coffee art. So cute! With the two fangs too! Hahaha!

Bacon (Beef) & Egg Bagel, RM10
The famous item in the shop is the fresh toasted bagel. The only bagel that I've tried so far. I think it's perfect for breakfast and the portion is quite big, for me.

Potatoes and Meatballs
Hidden gem found behind the shop! There's two different bars offering different menus, one for pasta, meatballs (chicken, beef, lamb) and mash potatoes and the other ones for smoothies. Totally delish salty and mushy mash potatoes yum yum!

Meatball Pasta

Having a great time with friends. I even went there on the last night I was in Penang.

Rating | 10/10
Perfect rating!?!? Not only are the food great, the staffs are super friendly! Not much comment I can think of, but I'm like addicted to the place. A must visit place when you're in Penang!

[SR] Charme Eclipse Grey Review

I'm back again for another contact lens review! Thanks to GlassesOnline again, this is my second time reviewing lenses for them.

This time I ordered Charme. Usually I would go for GEO lens because I feel comfortable wearing them but wanted to try other brand so I choose Charme. I've tried Charme once before, I'll get to that review the next time. It was actually recommended to me by an experienced contact lens wearer and she says she can actually wear them all day long in air-cond room (working indoor) and not feel tired.

In my opinion, this doesn't hold true for everyone because each individuals has different eyeballs so it really doesn't mean that the lens will work for you if it works for somebody else. The only way to find out is to try them. Does that mean I am contradict myself by writing a review like this? LOL. Okay, maybe a little but at least you know how it looks on a real person instead of photo-shopped images. But anyway, yea, I ended up trying another brand and series!

This always happens to me. Did you notice the slight difference in color on both side of the contact lenses? Since I have different power levels for both my eyes, I have to order 2 boxes. Not the first time for me. If the batch is different, this happens. Even though it looks very obvious here but thank goodness it is not noticeable on the eyes.

*About Base Curve*
I've actually learnt something new about base curve. Usually I will just ignore it because I don't know what it meant. But thanks to a very kind-hearted lady boss that I've met during my part-time in an optical shop, I have learned something new. You can actually go to an optical shop near you and ask for a quick check-up to find out your eyes' base curve measurement. So you'll know your eyes' base curve and with that, you can select the lenses that have base curves that is closest to your eyes' curve. Mine is 8.2mm. She said if I'm wearing lenses with bigger base curve, the lenses will move quite a lot when I blink, and I actually get that a lot especially when my eyes are really dry and I just blink like crazy. So it's best to choose those with value closest to your eyes' base curve.
A random short info, I hope you don't mind reading some interesting and useful things.

Here's a bonus and random picture with make-up.

Lens : Charme Eclipse Grey
Also available in Brown

Color & Design : ❤❤❤
Enlargement :
Comfort :
Overall :
Design wise, I don't really like it because it doesn't really blend well, and color is very subtle. Despite that, I can see well with it, the printed color didn't block my sight and didn't have any problem wearing it for long hours but still, will get a little irritated after 8 hours. For those who like subtle changes in their eyes with little enlargement, this is a good choice. I would prefer a lighter shade of grey color though, so this is a no-no for me.
Funny thing was, I didn't know they were monthly lenses. I'm very used to 3 months lens, so I ended up wearing them longer than I was supposed to. Luckily, nothing happened.

Some selfies while wearing the Charme Eclipse Grey lenses.

Okay, time for some more wordy wordy text words!
Some Q&A about Glasses Online Malaysia and some of my opinions.

What does glasssesonline.com.my do?
Glasses Online Malaysia does not only sell contact lenses, they also sell Glasses/Spectacles/Sunglasses like Ray BanPradaMarc Jacobs, and a whole lot more at the cheapest price! You can even browse through and filter out the frame shape that you like or your face shape so it's easier to search the ones that are suitable for you. So convenient!

Is it easy to find the product that you are looking for in the website?
Very. I can choose by brands, types, and even prices too.

Is it easy to purchase on glassesonline.com.my?
Yes! For contact lenses. But the only down side was that I can't actually try the glasses if I wanted to buy them since it's an online based shop. Though, they do provide the measurements of the products.

What does glassesonline.com.my do differently than other glasses/sunglasses stores?
A lot of choices, with cheaper price! Can even COD!

Was the shopping experience great? If so, what makes glassesonline.com.my great? Was the shopping experience bad? If so, what makes glassesonline.com.my bad?
Yes and no. Yes, because of the ease of selections and the price is much more cheaper than the ones in retail shops. The stage of purchasing was easy enough but the waiting time was excruciating, I had to wait like a few weeks. The delivery time was not spot on as suggested. Originally, I chose another brand but turns out they discontinued it. Weird though, they only told me this like a week after I purchased them and I still see that product for sale on their website. I've already complained to them about this matter. I hope they would fix it and wouldn't let others experience the same thing.

Who is the ideal person for this product?
The Charme Eclipse lenses are perfect for people who like minimal enlargement lenses with subtle difference. It's very natural and doesn't dry fast.

Where can you buy this product?
Click these links to buy Charme Eclipse Grey! This series also comes in another colour, Charme Eclipse Brown.

Just sharing my experience with you guys. These are my honest opinions towards the product and my shopping experience. Thanks for reading guys!

2/5/14 & 6/5/14 Alley Cafe, Georgetown

Let me introduce to you, one of my favorite cafe in Georgetown, The Alley! I've actually tried quite a few number of cafes in Penang, most of them are mostly the same but this one shot an arrow to my heart. Why you ask? Lemme tell you why, in a few scrolls downward...

My first visit was with my other intern colleagues but the place was full though so we didn't get the chance to yumcha there. Plus, there were roughly 6 of us, which makes it harder to secure a table because the cafe is very very very small so there's limited amount of seating. My second visit was with Alicia and Xiao Le, who both came to Penang at the same time for different reasons!

Selfie before review!

Cappuccino, RM9
Comes with a piece of peanut biscuit.

Hot Chocolate, RM10

Choc Mint Frappe, RM13
I always order this at Starbucks when Christmas is around the corner. Love love love the chocolate mint frap that they serve! Almost like the ones in Starbucks.
image

image Cronut with Nutella topping, RM8 image
In case you don't know what cronut is, it's the baby of croissant and donut! THIS IS YUMMMMMYYYYY!!!

image Churros, 4 pieces - RM6, 6 pieces - RM9 image
You can't find this anywhere else in Penang. Heck, I can't even find it in Selangor or KL area. I just remembered I had churros before when I was in Seoul. Super crispy and goes super well with salted caramel sauce. Definitely a must try!

image White Chocolate Cheesecake, RM10 image
I was attracted by the name because I have never had a white chocolate cheesecake before. Surprisingly good! Many praises to the baker!

And boom, time traveled, and I was here again with another bunch of friends because I simply can't resist introducing good food when I have found some. This time we were smart, we went earlier but still need to wait awhile to get a comfy seat.

Pomelo Cheesecake, RM10
Tried another one of their cheesecake, a bit of variation only but still love them. Perfect cheesecake!

Caramel Latte, RM11

Macho Mango, RM13
Fruity choice, just okay. Not much to boast about this drink.

Rating | 9.5/10
Wow, this is really a high rating from me. Tempted to give a 10 but it is impossible of course. The only downside of this place was the size of the cafe. I hope they had a bigger place because it is simply too packed and uncomfortable to sit for long hours. The snacks and drinks are great! No complains here. The staff was super friendly and funny too. I really like the spunky cashier girl who served us.

Even though the place was packed, we manage to take pictures like crazy in there. I think the other customers must have thought that we were insane and noisy too. Nevertheless, I present to you, pictures!

So many props to play with. Haha. And look! A really rare picture of Chia Soon smiling so naturally. He's a bit camera awkward but luckily manage to take this candid photo of him when we were making fun of him and his awkward camera pose.

Saikin and me. Together we are the Cyberjaya MMU Intern duo!

Lol, so gay

Making faces with some photobombing going on.

I don't know.. idk anymore. Joo Han, Chia Soon and David.

Gonna end this post with a group photo of course.
Oh, I miss my intern and the friends I made there already! Looking forward to our roadtrip together! I hope it is still on?!
